About
Hello! I am Amalie,
I have been sewing since my grandmother taught me when I was a little girl and my interest has only grown since. I have a BA (PBA) in Pattern Design and a huge passion for pattern construction in all its forms. Through my education, I learned about sustainability and began my me-made wardrobe. I have a big love for vintage pattern making, vintage fabrics and vintage sewing techniques, but I also like to experiment with modern trends and techniques. The combination of both vintage and modern pattern making might lead to something new.
Schultzapparel on Instagram started as a hobby and a portfolio of my work. Through my shared work in pattern making and my sewing projects, an interest in sharing my patterns grew, and as a result the launch of Schultzapparel patterns. I hope to make many more patterns in the nearest future, for all you lovely seamstresses to print and sew at home. Head over to my Instagram account @schultzapparel.
Facts about me:
I am 29 years old and I am from Denmark (a small country in Europe) where I live in a very small apartment in Copenhagen.
I have a BA in Pattern Design and a huge love for pattern making in all its form.
I have been sewing since my grandma taught me as a little girl; my first garment was a small wedding dress for my teddy bear.
I have always had a great love for skirts and dresses.
My last name is Schultz, which is a German name (some of my ancestors are from Germany) and therefore the name Schultzapparel.
I work full time as a Pattern maker/Fit technician for a Danish women’s clothing company and work on my small pattern business in my spare time.
I actually started my Instagram profile to share and show my work mostly with costume making.
I have a big love for all vintage and antique things, which started only a few years back when I started sewing dresses inspired by the 18th and the 19th century.
I have a big collection of vintage pattern making books, which I use as inspiration for my patterns.
Even though I love vintage pattern making I also have a big love for modern pattern making in form of new technology.
I love the vintage way of thinking about garments as valuable pieces that can last long with the right care and love. I hope this mindset and the work I do with my technical prototyping of my patterns will help towards a more sustainable development.
Facts about my patterns:
2cm / 3/4” seam allowance on my fitted patterns at the side seam and shoulder seam, this is a vintage inspired way of making a garment more suitable for future body change and therefore making it last longer.
For saving paper and assemble time, big square pieces are cut directly from the fabric using the cutting instructions in the booklet.
My more vintage inspired patterns are named after old Danish names and my more modern patterns are named after plants and flowers, all pattern names ends with an A (the first letter in my first name).
